The Floor:
Better Built Buildings are built on a foundation of 4x6 pressure treated skids. 8' and 10' have two skids. On twelve wide buildings and wider we add two more skids for a total of four. Buildings of twenty or less feet one solid 4x6 is used.. Larger buildings have spliced skids which are scabbed tougher with two 2x6s six feet in length with six lag bolts on each skid together with twelve non-slip nails. All buildings get 2x6 floor joist 16" on center and the floor is decked with tongue and groove pressure treated 3/4' plywood decking . Heavy duty flooring is available.
The Walls:
Wall studs are 2x4 16 inches on center. Better Built Buildings use hurricane clips to anchor the wall to the roof truss. The design specifications that or exceed Florida wind code requirements.
Window, door and any other wall opening over24 inches has header, (lentil,) of two 2x4s on jack studs. Openings 36 inches or over have headers made from two 2x6s with jack studs.
Siding is 5/8" T1-11 pressure treated. There is an option for board and batten siding made of cedar planks . Inside walls are unfinished. Other siding options are available.
The Roof:
Best Built Buildings roofs have 2x6 rafters and trusses on all buildings 12' or wider. Other buildings have 2x4 rafters on regular height wall buildings and 2x4 trusses on extra height buildings. All trusses are made with 18" double gussets at the ridge and 2x4 or 2x6 joists at the bottom except for regular height utilities ten wide or narrower that have 2x4 rafters.
Roofs are cover with double layer felt and 30 shingles or metal.
Windows & Doors:
All windows are high quality utility windows. Double pained and insulated are available as an option for an additional cost. Walk-through doors are nine-lite insulated house doors on cabins and offices and utility building doors on the rest. Larger doors are high quality swinging utility doors.
Other Features:
Ridge vents and soffit vents are standard.
